Kaiserstuhl
Mixed forests, that brightly shine in all colours in the autumn sun, broad nature reserves and romantic meadows by the Altrhein, wonderful views of the near mountain ranges of the Vosges and the Black Forest, hidden ruins of once proud castles, the Badberg mountain with it's unique biota- along the Kaiserstuhl and the Tuniberg there is always something new to discover. The small volcano mountain range of the Kaiserstuhl is located between Freiburg and the Rhine Valley. It has been shaped into a unique cultural landscape in the past.
The Kaiserstuhl offers ideal climatic and geological proportions for grape vines. It is the warmest and sunniest area, not only in Baden, but throughout Germany.
Almost like in the garden eden, famous wines, all types of fruits and delicate vegetables grow here. Sweet cherries, juicy plums, red apples, berries and nuts as well as asparagus of the region have epicure's hearts beating faster.
The celts, romans and allemans have already felt comfortable on this peace of earth a long time ago. There are numerous references of mediaeval architecture and craftsmanship, as for example the St. Stephansmünster (cathedral) in Breisach and the St. Michaelschurch in Niederrotweil. Small towns with picturesque market squares, proud towers and gates as well as wine villages decorated with flowers and with impressing timbered houses with the typical round arches give this cultural landscape it's distinctive atmosphere. For example the historical town of Burkheim, a declared listed monument. Further impressing sights are the baroque churches in Endingen, Merdingen, Neuershausen and Riegel.
